Plane Rides Are Fun.

So…it’s been over 4 months since I posted on here.  Don’t even have the energy to recount all the things that have gone on during that time, so I’m not going to try.  Sorry, I know you were just dying to know…

But here’s something cool that happened recently:  I flew in a plane.  Yeah, I know, right???  Crazy shit going on in Amyville.  This is actually a big deal because I don’t really fly.  At all.  In the last 20 years, I’ve flown exactly twice: once on our honeymoon to Disneyland in 1997 and then a few years ago to Vegas.  That’s it.  And those were big planes.

I flew in a small plane – 6 seater, owned by ODF – and I flew with my boss and colleagues.  I was nervous because I wasn’t sure how I’d do and I sure didn’t want to toss cookies in front everyone.  My boss, who is both caring and gifted at trolling, brought me real barf bags from her flight to DC the week before.  Aaawww.  So with much reservation, and sweaty palms, and my real barf bags tucked in my purse (better safe than sorry), I boarded the plane and grit my teeth for the takeoff.

Now, this is where it gets good.  It was SO cool!  Really, I had SO much fun!  Right after takeoff I was able to find Hwy 22 and keep myself oriented to landmarks so I could tell that we were going to fly right over our house.  So I texted Mike (yeah, I could text from the plane…which I found awesome) and let him know; he and Abby were still home so they were able to step out and watch us go right over.

And the day was SO clear…the visibility was great.  I went full tourist and took a ton of pictures and couldn’t stop looking out the windows the entire time.  Here’s some of the pics:

Santiam Canyon area…
Clouds/fog moving through the canyon…
Mt Jefferson and the southern Cascade range
Mt Hood out the opposite window…had to lean across my boss to get this one.
Lake Billy Chinook

The flight was straight and smooth and I thoroughly enjoy it!  The landing coming into John Day was a tiny bit sketchy because you circle out over a big canyon before lining up to the runway.  But other than that, it was totally wicked.  And I didn’t even have to use my boss’ thoughtful gifts!  Thanks ODF pilot!
