My Book Jar

“I found this thing on Pinterest…. ”  Oye, if you only knew how many of my sentences start like that.

But anyway, I found this great pin on Pinterest and I had to give a try.  See, this person created a Book Jar with with the names of authors and books that they want to read.  Every month, or whenever they are bored, they pull out a slip and that’s the book they read.  Here’s what their jar looks like and a link to their website.  They have over 300 pieces of paper in that jar…quite a reading list!

And I happen to have stacks and stacks of books that I’ve been picking up at Goodwill and used bookstores that I’ve been meaning to read so those are the titles I used in my jar.  Because, you know…you can never have enough books.

Here’s what my Book Jar looks like:

Book Jar

I have around 30 titles in there and they represent all these books that are sitting on my shelves, waiting for me to pick them up.  There are newer books like The Road and The Book Thief, classic books that I want to reread like Frankenstein, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, Persuasion (OK, a lot of classics to reread), and then there’s the Stephen King books.  I used to read every Stephen King book I could get my hands on…love that guy!  Love.  I had quite a collection of his books when I was younger and for the life of me, I don’t know where they ended up.  So I have decided to rebuild my collection, a little at a time, by picking up used copies of the books here and there.

But before I can begin my great Book Jar adventure, I have to finish reading the Percy Jackson series that my daughter got me started on.  They are good stories, easy reading, and it’s my way of connecting with Abby.  So, until I get through those the Book Jar will sit on my desk and I’ll be anxiously waiting to pull the first title.
